A Gloucestershire bakery has been named among the best in Britain by The Good Food Guide 2025.
Introducing the list of bakeries, the guide said: “Want to get a flavour of Britain’s best bites? Our advice: head to a bakery.
“In celebration of Britain’s modern baking boom, we’ve travelled hundreds of miles in search of sensational Danish pastries, fresh, flaky croissants and full-flavoured loaves to bring you The Good Food Guide’s Best Bakeries 2025.
“From a makeshift industrial unit in Devon to a radically remote destination in the Scottish Highlands and a must-visit spot in Mid Wales, these 50 top spots source locally, celebrate the seasons, and rival the pastry work of many of Britain’s top restaurant kitchens.
“The best part is, you can enjoy the fruit of their labour for a fraction of the cost. You’ll just have to join the queue.”
Six Chimneys in Cheltenham is among the best bakeries in Britain, according to the guide.
Why Six Chimneys Bakery is one of Britain’s best
The Good Food Guide 2025 said: “For a small artisan bakery to have found great success with such limited hours says a great deal about the amazing things coming out of its ovens.
“Six Chimneys opens on Saturdays only and that’s it.
“Their once-a-week offerings include such crowd-pleasers as sourdough loaves, viennoiserie, morning buns and creamy patisserie, as well as more playful items along the lines of an egg custard Danish with spiced cream, or honey, brown butter and almond croissantine, or even lemon, basil and black-pepper cake.
“Also expect meaty sausage rolls, substantial sandwiches and savoury pies such as slow-cooked shin of beef marinated in red wine.”

You can find the bakery at Unit 4, Alstone Lane, Alstone, Cheltenham, GL51 8HF.
Visitors have praised Six Chimneys for its food and drink offerings on Google Reviews where the bakery has a 4.4 rating from 28 reviews.
Some customers have called for the bakery to open on more days since they can only buy treats on a Saturday.
One visitor said: “Absolutely incredible. Probably the best bakery I’ve ever been to. The pistachio and cinnamon croissant was the best croissant I’ve ever tasted. It was perfectly crispy/flaky and fresh. The foccacia was soft and pillow-ey (not chewey like you get from the supermarkets).
“Everything I’ve bought from here has been top notch. The only downside is they only open on Saturdays. I hope someday they start to open on other days too”.
Another customer commented: “Our new favourite place for pastries on Saturday Mornings. The girls serving are very friendly and chatty, the pastries are different and all taste amazing.
“The Lychee and banana jam Crossantine was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.”
