Sculptor Giles Rayner to debut at Chelsea Flower Show

A CIRENCESTER based sculptor is set to debut a poignant father-son creation at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Giles Rayner, known for his large-scale metal sculptures, will be exhibiting a new kinetic water sculpture titled Zeus.

This marks a significant milestone in Giles’ career, as the piece is the result of a design collaboration with his 90-year-old father, Ranulf, symbolising a ‘full circle’ moment in their creative relationship.

Giles’ career started while experimenting in his father’s workshop as a teenager.

And now, both father and son will be attending Chelsea 2025, which starts on May 19 this year.

Zeus is characterised by an intergenerational blend of old-school principles and new approaches.

Giles will also be showcasing two other sculptures, Symphony and Enceladus II, made from 100 per cent recycled materials and off-cuts, sourced from UK metal suppliers.

This decision echoes Giles’ commitment to fostering a more ecologically conscious ethos in art production.

Enceladus II is a new sculpture and has never been exhibited before.

Having exhibited regularly at Chelsea throughout his career, Giles encountered significant setbacks during the pandemic, leading to a decision to take a break from exhibiting.

Now, after navigating these challenges, Chelsea 2025 marks a renaissance in his career.

Giles has been creating large-scale metal sculptures for nearly 30 years, with his work often reflecting energetic patterns found in the natural world and frequently incorporating water.

His largest sculpture is situated outside the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman, standing at 40 feet high and made from mirror-polished, marine-grade stainless steel.

Giles crafts his pieces in his workshop on the Hazleton manor estate, near Cirencester, shipping internationally to collectors worldwide.

The Chelsea Flower Show 2025 will serve as a platform not only for his new creations but also for a celebration of his enduring artistic journey.
