After an own goal from Josh Stones had given visiting Altrincham the lead on Tuesday night, York came out in their second-half and quickly cancelled out that deficit with a sublime strike from Hunt.
Having turned his marker from Cam John’s pass, Hunt unleashed a bending strike into goalkeeper Rob Lainton’s top left corner, drawing City level.
That goal wouldn’t be the driving factor behind York’s push for three points against familiar foes Altrincham, with a defensive slip of concentration allowing Justin Amaluzor to chest the ball beyond Harrison Male, gifting the visitors the victory.
Parkinson hopes to keep the Robins’ record against York – which stands at one defeat since 2011 – on the off chance that the two meet in the play-offs, and also spoke on how his side coped with Hunt’s strike having been aware of the dominance which City have showed at the LNER Community Stadium this season.
“They were at home and were behind, so they’re going to do that,” Parkinson told club media.
“We spoke about if they do hit us early and what that looks like, and if they did change anything, because Adam and his team are really inventive with their formations, their rotations and their combinations.
“I think they’re really similar to us to be fair, we’ve got really good players but they’ve got a huge squad to pick from so you can see the rotations in terms of personnel.
“It’s kind of a bit of a lottery of what you’re walking into, they started fast and we had to weather the storm.
“It took some goal to beat us, what a goal that was from Hunt.
“We can be a bit disappointed with what it took to get away from him, but what a finish.
“Rob showed his quality moments later, saving a similar kind of shot.
“You’ve got to do those kind of things when you come to York City, it’s a big stadium with big expectations, a huge crowd.
“Our lads did themselves proud tonight.
“Hopefully we can continue in that vein, because we might see them in the play-offs with the way we are.
“We need to keep up that kind of form and those performance levels, I think that’s the third time they’ve lost here, so it’s a lot to come here and get anything.
“They are one of the best in the division at getting last minute equalisers, so we’re really pleased with that.”
Altrincham’s opener came via a set-piece, after a foul from Malachi Fagan-Walcott allowed Elliot Osborne to float a cross into the back post.
An attempt at a clearance from Tyrese Sinclair saw the ball ricochet off of the Stones and land into Male’s net, although it was believed during the match that Lewis Baines had instead scored.
Parkinson now wants to see more set-piece goals from his side moving forward, admitting that it was an area of their game that they had room to improve in.
The Alty boss commented: “We work on them every week, we just don’t always execute them.
“It was a good delivery in and Bainesy got on the end of it, that’s what we’ve been talking about, lads landing on the ball.
“That’s an area for growth for us and we’ve done better with it in the last couple of weeks.”
