Americans flock to Cotswolds as property prices drop

Americans are flocking to the Cotswolds as property prices plunge, dubbing it the ‘Hamptons of England’.

Buying homes here can be around 40 per cent cheaper than over the Atlantic Ocean according to the Daily Mail.

The Cotswolds is home to 91,000 people and is located within six counties including Oxfordshire. 

Thanks to the cheaper prices and outstanding beauty found throughout the area, more and more Americans are choosing to make the move.

“It’s terribly beautiful. The scenery is glorious,” said local store owner and Boston native Jesse D’Ambrosi, who moved to the area five years ago, while talking with Mail Online.

“The Cotswolds is the Hamptons of England – without the sea of course.

“It’s also comparable to going upstate, though it’s a bit more rural and bucolic.”

This notion of exclusivity has been bolstered by the presence of several private member clubs in the area.

Cotswolds Council leader Joe Harris added that US nationals are “all over” the Cotswolds.

Speaking to the national publication he added: “We have an American member on our council.

“Most people in our area know an American or have an American neighbour.”

It is not just American residents who have made the trip over the water but celebrities from the country too.

Former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres permanently moved over last year with her wife and Arrested Development star, Portia de Rossi.

Legendary singer Beyonce has also been rumoured to be looking for a home in the area alongside her husband, Jay-Z.
