It’s been a scorching week for Afrobeats, with some of the genre’s brightest stars dropping red-hot tracks, lighting up dancefloors and playlists alike. Leading the charge are Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat” featuring Wizkid and Tiwa Savage’s “You4Me”—two records that blend nostalgic samples with fresh, contemporary vibes. Starr’s track is a tropical, dance-tinged groove, elevated by Wizkid’s silky vocals and a clever flip of Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s classic “911.” Meanwhile, Tiwa Savage leans into her R&B roots on “You4Me,” fusing her signature Afropop finesse with a sample of Tamia’s “Into You” for a sultry, throwback-inspired anthem.

These tracks set the tone for a week where top-tier collaborations and emotionally rich lyrics collide with cutting-edge production. From boundary-pushing sonic fusions to raw, soul-baring storytelling, this week’s releases prove that Afrobeats is in no mood to slow down. Instead, it continues to evolve, drawing from global influences while remaining deeply rooted in African rhythm and identity. Whether you’re in the mood for a late-night slow burn or an anthem to scream in traffic, there’s something in this roundup guaranteed to move you, both emotionally and on the dancefloor.

Let’s break down the new tracks that are heating up the charts and timelines this week…

#1. Ayra Starr ft. Wizkid – Gimme Dat

When two of Afrobeats’ most magnetic forces collide, magic is inevitable. On “Gimme Dat,” Ayra Starr and Wizkid rekindle the chemistry they first teased on 2022’s “2 Sugar.” This time around, they drift into a sun-drenched, dancehall-tinged groove, layered with subtle nods to early 2000s R&B. Cleverly sampling Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s “911,” the track taps into nostalgia without feeling dated. Producers VybeO and Mikabeatz lace it with a lush, tropical vibe—tailor-made for golden-hour playlists and late-night slow grinds. Wizkid’s smooth, sensual delivery melts seamlessly into Ayra’s airy vocals, creating a slow-burn anthem that deepens with every play.

#2. Tiwa Savage – You4Me

Tiwa Savage continues to blend genres effortlessly. And her latest single, “You4Me,” is yet another testament to that artistry. This time, she taps into early-2000s nostalgia by sampling Tamia’s timeless hit “Into You,” all while infusing the track with the contemporary flair that has made her a global icon. The song exudes a luxurious, late-night feel as her vocals glide over silky, R&B-inspired instrumentals.

Meanwhile, the lyrics delve into themes of desire and vulnerability, delivered with the emotional maturity and depth that have become hallmarks of her sound. Moreover, “You4Me” feels like a seamless evolution from her previous single, “Commitment” with Craig David, highlighting her willingness to experiment without losing her soulful storytelling edge. The result? A sleek, confident record that reaffirms her reign as the undisputed Queen of Afrobeats.

#3. Fireboy DML ft. Take A Daytrip – Story

Meanwhile, with “Story,” Fireboy DML dives deep into emotional terrain, delivering a personal narrative of heartbreak and growth. The track, produced in collaboration with American duo Take A Daytrip, seamlessly blends Afrobeats, alternative R&B, and experimental pop. As expected, Fireboy’s signature vulnerability is front and center. He recounts love lost and hard-earned lessons with raw honesty, while the textured, atmospheric production amplifies every word.

What’s more, the song ebbs and flows between ethereal highs and bass-heavy lows, mirroring the emotional rollercoaster at the heart of the story. It’s introspective, yet bold. Ambitious, yet grounded. In the end, “Story” is a powerful reminder of Fireboy’s range and his growing global resonance.

#4. Fola ft. Kizz Daniel – Lost

Fola is swiftly carving out a space as one of the most compelling new voices in Nigerian music. His latest release, “Lost,” featuring the ever-reliable Kizz Daniel, only strengthens that rise. Blending Afrobeats with subtle street-hop undertones, the track delivers an infectious groove that’s hard to ignore. Moreover, Fola’s poetic lyricism pairs effortlessly with Kizz Daniel’s smooth, melodic delivery, resulting in a track that feels both emotionally resonant and radio-ready.

Lyrically, “Lost” delves into themes of emotional disorientation and the longing for connection—universal sentiments that cut across age, background, and culture. Altogether, the song balances introspection with mainstream appeal. With this release, Fola not only demonstrates artistic growth but also signals that he’s ready to become one of the genre’s next-generation torchbearers.

#5. Shallipopi ft. Burna Boy – Laho II

“Laho II” is bold, brash, and unapologetically brilliant. Shallipopi’s collaboration with Burna Boy feels like a symbolic passing of the torch—though make no mistake, the rising star holds his own beside one of Afrobeats’ most commanding figures. The track pulses with sharp lyricism, high-octane beats, and an air of fearless swagger.

While Burna Boy’s unmistakable vocals add gravitas, it’s Shallipopi’s lyrical agility and magnetic presence that steal the spotlight. Together, they craft a sound that’s both rebellious and infectious. More than just a song, “Laho II” is a statement of self-assurance, disruption, and making your mark with volume. With its electric energy and no-holds-barred attitude, expect this track to dominate clubs, parties, and playlists well into the summer.
