Big Antony Evans impact statement made as Huddersfield Town to get major boost

Huddersfield Town boss Liam Manning believes that Antony Evans is “definitely going to contribute a lot” in the remainder of the season following his return from a second knee injury.

Evans made his first start of the campaign in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Rotherham United, with the midfielder featuring for just over an hour before being substituted.

The 27-year-old’s first knee injury was sustained in pre-season, leaving him sidelined until November.

Evans returned as a second-half substitute for encounters against Mansfield Town and Luton Town, but picked up a setback in the latter contest, which kept him out until February.

The midfielder featured off the bench against Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy, and after subsequently spending two League One matches as an unused substitute, Evans was brought straight into the starting 11 for Saturday’s win.

Reflecting on the midfielder being back available for his side, Manning told HTTV: “Credit to him, credit to the medical staff.

“It’s not easy when someone has something that they’re desperate to do and they love taken away from them for such a period of time, so I think that sometimes creates that fire in the belly to get back and the hunger to play, and I’ve definitely seen that in Evo in the last few weeks.

“He’s been frustrated not to get on the pitch and get minutes early, so I think he showed some good moments today, and I think between now and the end of the season he’s definitely going to contribute a lot.”
