With its foundations tracing back to the pre-colonial era, the Centro de Turismo showcases an array of captivating exhibits, from ancient artifacts to religious relics that tell the tale of the Spanish colonial influence. This remarkable venue not only highlights the Philippines’ diverse cultural heritage but also exemplifies the remarkable ability of Filipinos to weave these historical influences into a vibrant and distinctive expression of their collective identity.
The most recent celebration of cultural pride in this vibrant space was the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines’ annual ‘Pasasalamat’ event, held on January 27, 2025. This gathering was a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated media professionals and innovative content creators whose invaluable contributions have illuminated the diverse and dynamic regions of the Philippines on the global stage. Their efforts are intricately woven into the rich tapestry of Filipino history and culture, showcasing the islands’ breathtaking landscapes, colorful traditions, and the warm spirit of its people.
“Pasasalamat is our way of recognising the invaluable contributions of our partners in helping us share the wonders of the Philippines,” said TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles. “It is through your dedication and support that we have been able to achieve these milestones and inspire travelers to experience our country,” she added.
The ‘Pasasalamat’ event was a vibrant celebration of the remarkable success achieved by the Philippines’ tourism campaigns, with the newly revitalized Centro de Turismo Intramuros serving as a stunning centerpiece. This historic venue was more than just a backdrop; it seamlessly blended with the evening’s captivating performances, featuring Acapellago’s innovative interpretations of beloved Filipino classics and the breathtaking presentations by the Sindaw Performing Arts Guild.
During the event, COO Nograles passionately highlighted the vital role of tourism as a force for good—a powerful catalyst for creating meaningful opportunities that uplift communities and protect the environment.
These achievements mark an extraordinary milestone, with a staggering Php11.3 billion in sales leads generated in 2024—an impressive 44.8% increase from the previous year, showcasing the remarkable growth and potential of the Philippine tourism industry.
The profound impact of this event beautifully reaffirms the TPB’s unwavering commitment to cultivating a tourism industry that paves the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future. “Together, we are the storytellers of our nation,” she declared, her voice resonating with passion as she encouraged the esteemed guests to embrace the essence of collaboration and shared purpose as we look forward to 2025.
Following the program, attendees were invited to embark on a captivating guided tour, delving into the rich narratives that shape Philippine history. As they wandered through the captivating venues like Centro de Turismo, they discovered how these spaces play a pivotal role in preserving our cultural heritage. The event culminated on a hopeful note, reinforcing TPB’s mission to champion sustainable tourism while generating opportunities for all Filipinos, illuminating the path toward a brighter and more equitable future for the nation.
