On Thursday, councillors are due to determine a scheme for a seven-storey apartment block at Hungate, known as Block H, which council planners have recommended for approval.
As the Press reported, the scheme would help complete the Hungate neighbourhood of more than 1,000 homes. Another block, known as Block G, is also yet to be built.

Executive Member for Housing, Cllr Michael Pavlovic said: “It’s positive news to see a planning application come forward to committee for Hungate Block H, which is well overdue almost eight years after it gained outline planning permission.
“With major development sites like Hungate, the council is always keen to see them developed as soon as possible but this sits largely in the hands of the developers.
“The application will be considered on its merits by a planning committee this week. Should it be approved, then we’d expect to see the usual developer contributions that mitigate its impact and which benefit nearby communities”.
A spokesperson for Hungate (York) Regeneration Limited on behalf of Lendlease and Evans, said: “We’re pleased to see officers recommend the application for approval to help deliver a range of new homes at Hungate.
“Should the proposals be approved at the planning committee, in line with our development strategy, we’ll seek a partner to enable the delivery and realisation of the full potential of the final phases of Hungate.”
