For York City, their season ended with an incredible 96 points, their second-highest points tally only behind the history-making 101 point season for the 1983/84 team.
It means they finished in second place for the first time in their history, which was confirmed last weekend after Barnet clinched the title.
The Bees are this year’s fifth tier champions, reaching 102 points after a 3-0 victory at AFC Fylde on the final day.
Trailing behind City is Forest Green Rovers, who ended their season with a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool United.
They accumulated 83 points across the season, and like York, have confirmed a home play-off semi-final.
Finishing in fourth place was Rochdale, despite losing 2-0 to Braintree Town on the final day.
They will play seventh-placed Southend United in the play-off eliminator, with the winner then travelling to Forest Green Rovers for the semi-final.
It’s quite the achievement for Southend, who travelled to Gateshead on the final day, needing either a draw or a win to beat the Heed in the race for the play-offs.
They held out for a goalless draw, meaning that Gateshead will remain in the National League for another season.
Oldham Athletic finished fifth on 73 points, whilst FC Halifax Town ended their season in sixth on 70 points.
They will play one another on Wednesday, May 14 at Oldham’s Boundary Park, with the winner of the match then visiting York’s LNER Community Stadium on Tuesday, May 20.
Missing out on the chance for a shot at promotion was Altrincham and Tamworth, with both ending their season on 64 points.
It’s a brilliant achievement for Tamworth, who were playing in the National League for the first time 2014 after back-to-back promotions through the regional divisions.
Hartlepool United and Sutton United finished in 11th and 12th respectively, both accumulating 60 points.
They were followed by today’s opponents for City, Eastleigh, in 13th on 59 points.
Solihull Moors, Woking, Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Boston United were able to head into the final day safe from relegation, whilst Braintree Town, in the middle of the four in 17th, celebrated victory to secure safety in their first season back in the fifth tier.
At the bottom, all of Wealdstone, Dagenham & Redbridge and Maidenhead United battled it out for safety, with two guaranteed relegation.
Maidenhead did their part, beating Boston 3-0, but it was not enough due to results elsewhere – confirming that the Magpies would be relegated this season on 52 points.
Joining them would be one of Wealdstone and Dagenham & Redbridge, with the former winning 3-1 against play-off occupants Halifax.
Dagenham needed to beat Solihull to rescue their season and secure safety, but fell short, drawing 1-1 with Solihull Moors and dropping into the sixth tier for the first time since the year 2000.
Already relegated AFC Fylde ended their campaign on 40 points and 13 adrift of safety.
Ebbsfleet United’s relegation has been confirmed for a while, having managed just 22 points all season and conceding 98 goals. They finished at the foot of the National League.
