The Terriers’ academy has been praised
Huddersfield Town interim boss Martin Drury gave “full credit” to George Sebine and the club’s academy after the youngster netted his first senior goal for the Terriers.
The young forward scored Town’s third goal in their convincing 4-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon on the final day of the League One season on Saturday.
The 19-year-old has been brought into the first-team fold by the interim management team of Drury and Jon Stead, with the striker having featured in six of Town’s final seven games of the campaign.
On Sebine’s maiden senior strike for Town, Drury told HTTV: “It was brilliant. I think Jon and Tongey (Michael Tonge) were ecstatic on the bench for him scoring that goal. It was great to see him score.
“A young player, he came into it out of nowhere, was in non-league 12 months ago, and suddenly he’s scoring in the Football League, so full credit to him again, full credit to the academy, to Worthy (Jon Worthington) and Hoggy (Jonathan Hogg) and everybody else, Quinny (Paul Quinn), on all the work that they’ve done. Brilliant for George, brilliant for his family.”
Fellow youngsters Max Murray and Dan Vost were introduced as late substitutes for Town in Saturday’s victory, with the former making his senior debut for the club.
“Max and Vosty, we would’ve liked to have got them on a little bit earlier, the ball just didn’t seem to go out of play, and then we’re defending set plays, so we just wanted to wait for that,” Drury added.
“I was just speaking to Max’s mum there, and how pleased they are as a family, that’s a real special moment for them, and hopefully it’s one that they’ll look back on and cherish in the future.”
