Huddersfield Town striker heads out the club after difficult time in front of goal

Huddersfield Town striker Dion Charles has joined Blackpool on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old has returned to the side where he began his career, with the forward having departed the Seasiders back in 2014 prior to making a senior appearance.

Charles netted just four goals in 55 appearances for Town following his arrival from Bolton Wanderers in January 2025, with the striker now reuniting with Ian Evatt, who was in charge during his time with the Trotters.

The forward heads to Blackpool after Town brought in striker Ashley Fletcher from the fellow League One outfit as their first summer signing.

Charles is Town’s fourth departure since the end of last term, with Mickel Miller, Rhys Healey and Alfie May having also left the club.

“Dion joining Blackpool on loan is a move that suits the best interests of everyone involved,” Town’s sporting director Chris Markham told his club’s website.

“We could not guarantee Dion minutes in the coming season, and he now has the opportunity for a fresh start.

“For the club, it’s good that we can get this move completed relatively early in the transfer window. It gives us all additional clarity as we look to shape our squad under Martin Drury for the new season.”

Head coach Drury added: “I’d like to wish Dion the very best of luck with his loan move to Blackpool. I’m pleased that we’ve reached a mutually beneficial agreement and hope to see Dion succeed with his loan club.”
