Black Diamond Equipment has officially joined forces with Montreal-based footwear innovator Norda in their first-ever collaboration. This monumental alliance merges elite mountaineering expertise with state-of-the-art trail-running design to completely redefine high-alpine movement for serious endurance athletes. The centerpiece of this historic launch is the highly anticipated Norda 000 trail running shoe.
This brand-new silhouette acts as a hybrid masterpiece, blending legendary durability with elite agility. Furthermore, the innovative collection debuts alongside an array of technical equipment and apparel made to withstand the most demanding, high-altitude, rugged environments.
A Hybrid Masterpiece for High Altitude
The technical foundation of the Norda 000 is an intentional, performance-driven hybrid structure. To create this model, designers carefully combined the best attributes of Norda’s two flagship predecessors. Specifically, the shoe pairs the secure, close-fitting upper of the nimble 002 with the plush underfoot platform of the ultra-distance 001.
This specific combination directly answers long-standing consumer requests for a highly protective flagship shoe featuring a heavily padded heel collar. Because high-alpine scrambling demands full ankle protection, this design alteration provides critical security on shifting terrain. Therefore, runners receive maximum locked-in comfort without sacrificing agility when traversing unpredictable scree fields and steep ridges.
Nick Martire, the visionary co-founder of Norda, expressed his enthusiasm for the landmark project during the live unveiling in Chamonix. “This year, Norda has a collaboration with an equipment brand that will make a lot of sense,” Martire teased before the reveal. He later added that the 000 sits uniquely between the 001 and 001A models.
Groundbreaking Foam on the Mountain Trails
A massive engineering triumph within the Norda 000 is the introduction of the advanced Vibram Stream Flow midsole. This shoe is the first footwear option on the global market to utilize this specific tooling. The novel foam compound provides an underfoot experience that mimics the lively energy of modern, highly responsive supercritical race foams.
Traditional racing foams tend to compress rapidly and break down on rugged, jagged tracks. To combat this problem, the Stream Flow compound delivers 15 percent more resilience while remaining significantly lighter than previous iterations. According to exhaustive product testing by Vibram and Norda, this springy midsole remains remarkably stable over more than 250 miles.
Industry wear-testers have already reported that the foam remains highly active and lively for up to 500 miles. For technical specifications, the 000 features a functional 26mm stack height in the heel and 21mm in the forefoot. This geometry creates a balanced 5mm drop, which maximizes essential ground feel while providing reliable protection.
Materials Engineered for Ultimate Durability
Up top, the seamless upper is constructed using Norda’s signature bio-circular Dyneema-woven fabric. This ultra-tough material is widely recognized as the strongest and most abrasion-resistant fiber in the world. Because high-altitude rock scrambling subjects footwear to constant abrasion, choosing premium Dyneema provides unrivaled long-term durability.
Interestingly, the specific Dyneema used in the 000 upper is sourced entirely from timber-industry by-products. These wood elements are processed into ethylene, creating the first high-performance Dyneema fiber made without fossil fuels. As a result, the shoe reduces its environmental footprint while delivering structural integrity that outlasts traditional nylon or engineered mesh uppers.
To complement the durable upper, the shoe utilizes the proprietary Norda Fit Lock System. This system uses an ultra-light inner gusseted sleeve that securely wraps around the midfoot. The diamond-patterned shoelaces are also woven with 100 percent recycled bio-based Dyneema and premium polyester. This prevents the laces from slipping or stretching during wet mountain crossings.
Traction and Interior Comfort Engineering
Flip the shoe over, and you encounter a custom full-coverage Norda x Vibram Megagrip outsole. This iconic rubber compound is enhanced with Litebase technology to shed weight without sacrificing any traction. Featuring deep 5mm lugs, the outsole bites effectively into loose dirt, muddy singletrack, and wet granite.
Internally, Norda replaces standard EVA sockliners with a custom-engineered Expanded Thermoplastic Polyurethane (eTPU) insole. This advanced foam is produced by expanding closed-cell TPU beads under intense heat and pressure. The resulting insert combines the structural elasticity of rubber with the light weight of technical plastics.
The eTPU material ensures long-lasting energy absorption and continuous rebound over multi-hour alpine missions. For weight-conscious athletes, the 000 weighs 8.92 ounces in a women’s size 8. Meanwhile, the men’s size 8.5 tips the scales at an impressive 10.37 ounces. Due to the low-volume alpine fit, Norda officially recommends sizing up one full size.
Aesthetic Language and Cohesive Trail Gear
The design aesthetics of this collaborative shoe are unapologetically bold and firmly rooted in mineral tones; the Norda 000 launches at a premium retail price of $295 USD. Athletes can choose between three distinct, striking colorways: “Kunzite,” “Moonstone,” and “Obsidian.”
The distinctive “Kunzite” option showcases a vibrant, flashy pink hue that contrasts sharply against dark mountain landscapes. To maximize safety during dawn or dusk runs, the shoe features 360-degree high-visibility reflective hits. This ensures that headlamps easily catch the shoes from any angle along remote alpine trails.
Importantly, this launch stretches far beyond a singular footwear drop. The brands have created a fully unified, color-matched alpine equipment system. Rather than lazily slapping logos onto pre-existing gear, the design teams fully re-engineered classic Black Diamond products. This comprehensive ecosystem allows athletes to seamlessly match their footwear with technical mountaineering hardware.
A Complete Technical Alpine Ecosystem
The collaborative capsule includes a special-edition Black Diamond Distance 15 Pack retailing for $299.95 USD. This fast-packing vest is constructed from ultralight, waterproof Challenge Sailcloth UltraWeave 100D. Additionally, the pack features integrated storage options designed specifically to hold the new Distance Carbon Z FKT trekking poles.
These premium carbon poles retail for $279.95 USD and are color-blocked to match the pink Kunzite shoes. For traveling athletes, the collection introduces the Mini Mission Duffel 30L priced at $329.95 USD. This rugged luggage choice features zero-waste, eco-friendly Challenge Sailcloth UltraWeave 400D fabric.
Even the smallest climbing details received attention, resulting in a co-branded Black Diamond MiniWire Carabiner for $11.95 USD. This marks the first time in history that Black Diamond has allowed another brand’s logo on its carabiners. Rounding out the capsule are casual pre-faded cotton graphic T-shirts for $95 USD and technical running caps for $85 USD.
Retail Availability and Global Market Impact
The inaugural Norda x Black Diamond Equipment collection is available for purchase immediately via official brand channels. Consumers can secure the 000 trail runner directly on Norda’s Online Store and the Black Diamond Website. Following the initial online drop, the products will arrive at brick-and-mortar retail locations on August 31, 2026.
Physical availability will be concentrated in flagship Black Diamond retail stores across the United States, as well as in Innsbruck and Seoul. Furthermore, a highly curated group of elite global stockists will receive limited quantities of the gear. Because of the intense hype surrounding UTMB 2026 in Chamonix, initial inventory is expected to sell out exceptionally fast.
The Norda 000 redefines what mountain runners can expect from high-end footwear. By merging extreme durability with innovative, resilient foam, both brands have successfully elevated the standards of alpine running gear. Serious mountain athletes looking to conquer technical ridges can now invest in a tool explicitly built from pure mountain experience.
