Oxford has been named as one of the best staycation spots in the UK for its “mix of culture, history and comfort”.
The city came in 10th place for travellers seeking a “peaceful retreat away from the crowds”, according to date experts at Aqua.
The brand’s analysis on ‘top hidden gem staycation spots’ measured the average cost of accommodation, number of Instagram posts, monthly search volume and average temperature and rainfall in spring.
The findings state: “Oxford ranks as the 10th best staycation destination ahead of the May Bank Holiday, offering a mix of culture, history, and seasonal comfort.
“With average accommodation costs at £101 and spring temperatures of 9.9°C, it’s a charming option for a weekend escape.
“The city sees moderate rainfall (48.6mm) and draws strong interest online, with five million Instagram posts and 114,000 monthly searches – highlighting its continued appeal for a spring getaway.”
Earlier this year Oxford was named in the top five staycation destinations for a weekend away in 2025.
It comes as recent data found that 76 per cent of Brits prefer to take at least one staycation per year.

According Aqua, London tops the list with its world-class attractions and thriving social scene.
In second place was Liverpool, with 2.1 million Google searches and 17.8 million Instagram posts showcasing the cultural hotspot.
Also on the list was Portsmouth, Bristol and Cambridge.
