Plans for apartments on Dean Court Hotel car park approved

Plans submitted by Dean Court Hotel Limited to build a two-storey block of nine apartments on an overspill car park for Dean Court Hotel to the rear of Portland Street have been approved by City of York Council planning officers.

The application said eight studios are planned along with one larger unit over two floors.

A 2018 application for 16 homes on the full site was later withdrawn, documents said.

One objection to the proposed development was received which said the planned floorspace per dwelling was only usable as AirBNBs and were too small for cohabiting, and that a high turnover of residents would be expected.

The planning officer recommendation for approval said “the site is an accessible and central location which can be made sustainable by limiting the need to travel.”
