The million-selling star is hitting the road again this September, but instead of performing on stage, he will be delivering thousands of meals to struggling dog rescue centres, including a stop in Birmingham.
Will Young, co-founder of the dog food brand Miraculous Meals, has announced his Miraculous Meals Road Trip, a UK-wide donation tour which will see him personally deliver £50,000 worth of dog food to rescue centres across the country. The initiative comes at a time when animal charities are facing unprecedented challenges, with rising costs and record numbers of dogs needing care.
The crisis is felt sharply in Birmingham. Birmingham Dogs Home estimates it costs around £150 per dog each week, with expenses soaring even higher for those requiring medical treatment. With up to 240 dogs in their care at once, the financial strain is enormous.
On Monday 15 September, Will and his Miraculous Meals team will stop at Birmingham Dogs Home, Catherine-de-Barnes, Solihull, to deliver thousands of meals and shine a spotlight on the vital work done by the charity.
Following Birmingham, the Miraculous Meals Road Trip will continue with donations to centres in Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Hungerford and Wales, including Manchester Blue Cross and partners dog food bank drop, Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home, Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, the National Animal Welfare Trust in Hungerford, and Hope Rescue in Wales.
Speaking ahead of the tour, Will said:
“It’s heartbreaking to see rescue centres under such strain, which is why we created Miraculous Meals, to turn something as simple as feeding your dog into a lifeline for others. I’m really proud to be setting off across the UK to help raise awareness and to deliver food to the incredible teams working tirelessly to give rescue dogs the second chance they deserve.”
Rescue centres have welcomed the support with open arms. Vanessa Wadden, CEO at Hope Rescue in Wales, said:
“This donation will feed every dog in our care for a significant amount of time. It’s a huge relief at a time when costs are spiralling and demand for our help has never been greater.”
With the Miraculous Meals Road Trip rolling into Birmingham this month, local supporters will see first-hand how one of the city’s busiest rescue centres is being given a vital helping hand by one of the UK’s best-loved pop stars.
