Readers will now be able to cast their vote by picking up copies of The Press between today (Monday, March 17), and Saturday, March 29, with the winner set to be announced the week of Monday, April 7.
Each newspaper in the coming days will feature a short profile on each venue and why they deserve to be voted number one in York.
When announcing the launch of the series, Nigel Burton, editor of The Press, said: “Sandwich bars play a key role in York’s thriving food scene.
“And that’s why The Press is delighted to be able to celebrate the hardworking people behind these venues.
“We’ll be bringing you updates on the nominations, so keep an eye out to see if your favourite is featured.”
The Best Sandwich Bar series follows our previous competitions, crowing York’s best hairdresser, gym, coffee shop and more.
Haircut One Hundred in Foxwood was named York’s best hairdresser.
“I can’t believe it, it’s amazing, I’m blown away and I know the girls will be absolutely delighted. We’ve got a fantastic team and wonderful clients, I feel very fortunate,” said Ann Taylor, who took over the business in 1982.

Fitter Body Ladies, Clifton Moor, was named York’s best gym.
Aimee Sadler owns the business and said she was “amazed” and “shocked” to be crowned the winner.
“The women have really got behind it, we’ve got a really good community here,” she said. “The exercise is only about 50 per cent of what we do.”
Chocolate and Co, in Lowther Street, was voted the city’s best coffee shop.
The café runs as a charity, offering opportunities to people in the community who struggle to find work because of their past.
“We all felt absolutely ecstatic when we were told we had won,” said the café’s then supervisor Lisa Kerry, who started working at Chocolate and Co after leaving rehab.
“When you think of what we do here it’s lovely to know that customers have voted for us, we want to say a big, massive thank you to everyone.”
