As a shopping writer, I’m always trying new products and up-and-coming beauty brands, so my skin care routine is constantly changing. But my 51-year-old mom, on the other hand, couldn’t be more opposite. She has a curated selection of luxury beauty products and rarely strays from them. One of her holy grails is the La Mer Resurfacing Treatment Exfoliator. It promotes natural cell turnover that smooths and balances skin, as well as reduces fine lines and leaves a glowy finish. The treatment is certainly a splurge at $145, but after trying it myself, I must say it’s worth every penny.
That being said, I was curious to see if I could find a similar treatment in a more wallet-friendly price range. Luckily, I came across the Versed Doctor’s Visit Instant Resurfacing Face Mask for just $15 and decided to conduct a little experiment. I also wanted my mom’s thoughts on the alternative, which boasts similar benefits to her go-to resurfacing treatment.

The Versed Resurfacing Mask is an “at-home facial,” according to the brand. It’s packed with a blend of AHA, BHA, and pineapple enzyme exfoliants that help with cell turnover, leaving the skin brighter and more refreshed. Specifically, the combination of glycolic acid and lactic acid help to minimize the appearance of pores and redness. At the same time, the vitamin C enzymes remove an outer layer of dead skin that might’ve trapped bacteria, which helps smooth skin.
After trying out the mask, she had nothing but rave reviews, sharing that it left her with “fresh” and “glowing” skin that had a “post-spa feel.” She loved the jelly consistency, which had a “cool gel finish” and “wasn’t sticky” like other face masks and treatments she’s tried in the past.
My mom isn’t the only fan of the resurfacing mask, though. The $15 product has almost 2,000 five-star ratings and more than 700 purchases were made within the last month, per Amazon. One 53-year-old shopper wrote that they saw an “immediate difference” after just one use, adding that their “cheeks looked so smooth” and “unclogged.” Another person said it left their “skin smooth as glass in just a few minutes.”
I don’t think my mom will completely abandon her luxury beauty products, but this resurfacing mask has joined her skin care routine — it’s all about high and low, right? Below, shop more Versed skin care products, including a retinoid eye balm and a moisturizing face cream.
