Hinshelwood’s side will continue to plough their way through their hectic National League schedule with a fifth match in 14 days at Hartlepool’s Suit Direct Stadium tomorrow afternoon (3pm).
York have lost just one of those five matches, a 3-1 defeat to Barnet, with City continuing to build momentum ahead of the final run in of the campaign.
Next up for the Minstermen are Anthony Limbrick’s Hartlepool, who will also welcome a sold-out away end in the North East with over 700 travelling supporters expected.
Hinshelwood’s team will need the fans, with the boss comparing the club’s recent backing from supporters to that of the history-making 1983/84 team – who became the first club in Football League history to surpass 100 points.
“This year we had the older teams, that have had so much success, and the 40-year anniversary of teams that have done so well in previous years,” Hinshelwood detailed.
“They really spoke about how momentum grew amongst the fans, how they started off with ‘x’ amount and it got up to selling out.
“We’re starting to see a little bit of that ourselves, and that’s what we want to try and create.
“We want to be successful and win games, and we want the fans to enjoy it so that they keep coming back.
“We know that if we’re doing that and are winning games of football, and are competing at the top end of the table, then the following will be here at this club.
“Seeing the fans queue around the block to get Hartlepool tickets was amazing, and we want to go and do all we can to make sure they leave Hartlepool on Saturday nice and happy.”
Hinshelwood also has a lot of respect for a Hartlepool side that have struggled as of late, with just two wins league victories since Boxing Day.
Those triumphs came against Oldham Athletic and Sutton United, with Limbrick now the man in the Hartlepool hotseat, stepping up from assistant manager to replace Lennie Lawrence, who moved into the number two role as a result.
As a result, Hartlepool find themselves in 12th position – and eight points adrift of Altrincham in the play-offs.
Hinshelwood has a lot of respect for this afternoon’s opponents, and believes that the first goal in the contest will be crucial given the bumper crowd expected at the Suit Direct Stadium.
The York gaffer continued: “I sound like a broken record because I say it every week, I’ve got enormous amounts of appreciation for the players that they’ve got available to them and how they go about it.
“It’ll be a tough game, but I have so much respect for Anthony and his team.
“Obviously it’s hindsight, an early goal in those kind of games will make a massive difference.
“The first goal in those kind of games is always massive.
“We’ll have a big following with us as well so to get them on our side and with us, creating chances and testing their goalkeeper.
“That will definitely be the game plan, but it doesn’t always pan out that way.
“They will be desperate to go ahead in the game and get fans on their side as well.
“It’s a big game, Hartlepool away. It’s two clubs that are desperate to get back into the football league.
“It’s tradition and we definitely both in the future want to be in the Football League.”
