Begin this 5.5-mile route walking under the railway bridge past The Rambler Inn to the opposite end of the village.
At the Old Nags Head pub, continue straight down the road, then bear left, and turn right down some steps and across a wooden bridge, go up the steps and turn left on the flagstone path.
After a short distance there’s a footpath bearing right across the grass. Walk uphill to Heardman’s Plantation, go through the gate then follow the switchback path as it ascends towards Ringing Roger (rock formation).
At the large stone cairn turn right and continue uphill, then as you reach the large gritstone rocks you can pick either footpath up to the Kinder Plateau.
Once you’ve reached the top, follow the narrow path to the left, which skirts around the edge of the plateau.
The path bears around to the right you’ll cross over a small stream, then double back on the other side, Grindslow Knoll summit is straight ahead. Walk until you reach another stone cairn, at the top of Grindsbrook Clough footpath.
Take the flagstone path leading off to the right all the way up to the top of Grindslow Knoll, also one of the ‘Ethels’.
Bear right and continue on the path heading down the other side towards a gate. Then head left in a south-easterly direction, descending to a rocky path. This steep path heads around the base Grindslow Knoll until you reach a gate. Go through here, continue downhill on the grassy path to another gate and turn right.
Follow the stream into Edale village, at the Old Nags Head, turn right and follow the same road back to the car park or train station.

Keep going uphill, past some farm buildings before you reach stone steps up to a wooden gate. It’s a short grassy (and muddy) footpath uphill until you reach a rocky path. Follow this all the way up to the large stone marker at Hollins Cross.
Next, turn right on the flagstoned path heading uphill. Keep walking on this route, via two gates all the way to Mam Tor summit. Be sure to stop at the trig point before continuing down the other side on the stone path, via some steps.
The path bends around to the left then through a gate to the road. Turn right and follow it around the corner until you reach a gate signposted to Edale. Walk down this path, parallel to the wall. Go through another gate, and downhill via a steep section.
Go through the next gate, walk along the path and through another gate. Then take the next immediate gate on your left and turn right down the track. You’ll go past a farm, which sometimes has an honesty box with snacks.
At the road, turn right, for about 100 metres then left back to the start.
