5 Purse Trends for Spring 2025, According to a Stylist

My life motto is to look on the bright side, and that certainly applies to fashion. While the weather is currently bone-chilling, windy, and well, downright miserable, it’s important to remember that sunnier days are on the horizon. To keep my dwindling winter spirits uplifted, I’m getting a headstart on shopping for spring fashion. For some extra help, I tapped personal stylist Samantha Dawn to spill the top bag trends she’s eyeing for the upcoming season.

From eye-catching colors to animal print statement pieces, Dawn’s trend predictions have officially gotten me out of my February slump. After she pointed me in the right direction, I found corresponding styles on Amazon from just $30. To liven up your own bag collection, check out these stylist-approved trends, below.

Stylist-Approved Spring Bag Trends

Pops of Color: JW Pei Hana Mini Faux Suede Tote Bag

As a New Yorker, my color scheme is typically black, black, and more black. Still, even I can get excited about pops of color, which Dawn predicted will be big this spring. “Year 2025 is about embracing individuality and leaning more toward maximalism,” the stylist told InStyle over email. “Having your bag be the ‘pop of color’ in your outfit is a perfect way to express your own personal style.”

Thoroughly convinced, I’m adding this adorable mini JW Pei purse to cart. The style is made from soft faux suede material and can be carried as a handbag or crossbody. Not to mention, it’s from a brand Oprah Winfrey wears. Since most of my clothes are neutral, I can see this olive-toned beauty perfectly complementing my spring looks.

Snake Print: Baggu Mini Nylon Shoulder Bag

If you like your fashion loud, you’ll be pleased to see that animal prints—specifically snake prints—aren’t going anywhere this season. “Although leopard print has been popular, the snake print is now emerging as it has a more edgy feel from the leopard print,” said Dawn. “You’ll see this in neutrals as well as colors, such as red.”

Since every cool girl I know shops at Baggu, I’m coveting this nylon printed bag. The on-trend style has an adjustable strap and is made from a machine-washable material. Those who, like Dawn, are eyeing colorful animal print styles, may instead want to consider this red-hot chain purse, which would make a great going out bag.

Raffia: Herald Crescent Raffia Bag

This spring, I’m manifesting plenty of sun-soaked outdoor meals, hopefully accompanied by a cold drink and a fabulous sundress. The only thing missing from that picture is a seasonally appropriate bag, such as the raffia-style purses Dawn predicts we’re about to see more of.

“The contemporary version of crochet or woven fabrics will be everywhere and [are] perfect for spring,” noted the expert. “You’ll see this material in bags with all shapes and structures.” With that in mind, I’ll be adding this woven hobo bag to my wishlist. I can easily see myself wearing it during both spring and summer, and I appreciate that it’s the perfect size to fit a wallet, phone, and my many, many lip products.

East-West: Stylor East-West Le Teckel Bag

If sharp, sleek silhouettes strike your fancy, you’ll be pleased to see that east-west bags are back en vogue, too. “These structured and elongated bags are effortlessly chic [and] can instantly make your outfits more elevated,” said Dawn.

To get the look for yourself, try out this itty-bitty east-west bag, which is just $39 on Amazon. While I’m all for the chocolate brown version, the leather burgundy iteration is equally as chic.

Soft Suede: Madewell Essentials Bucket Tote Suede Bag

“Suede is usually popular in the winter time, but they were all over the spring 2025 runways,” confirmed the stylist. “Fashion is really making an effort to make things that used to only be appropriate for certain seasons feel usable for all seasons.”

Considering its prevalence, the expert recommends shopping “soft suede” bags for spring. Because I can’t go a day at the office without spotting this Madewell bucket tote, the roomy, practical style is my suede selection of choice. With its stunning forest green hue and 100 percent suede material, the buttery soft bag is a luxe under-$200 find. Plus, it has an adjustable strap and structured base, ensuring it can comfortably store all your on-the-go essentials.
