I HOPE City of York Council doesn’t just stick with the introduction of stricter rules for taxis and enlarges it to include the scourge of the streets and footpaths in the city: the food delivery cyclist.
The cyclists are a law unto themselves; little or no knowledge of the Highway Code, no lights and often travelling at high speeds on their electric cycles.
All fast food delivery cyclist/scooter drivers should be registered, have licences and have adequate insurance to cover any accidents or eventuality.

Welcome moves by Labour on knife crime
THANK you Yvette Cooper for setting out on an ambitious mission for the country to halve knife crime over the next decade.
How welcome it is to see every possible avenue pursued to save lives.
Thank you too for delivering the toughest ever crackdown on online knife sales to protect people too.
This means that retailers will be required to report bulk or suspicious purchases to the police.
The Conservative Party allowed knife crime to get out of control thanks to splits and open civil war in the last government.
Labour, meanwhile, are taking the awesome Tony Blair and Jack Straw approach which is being tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime.

Time for letter writer to subscribe to The Press?
YOUR writer down south should subscribe to The Press where he might read about Starmer giving £9 billion to the buyer of the Chagos and the increased cost to UK taxpayers of a surge in refugee numbers, none likely to help build the many houses promised, with too few builders to do so.
How good to see Rachael Maskell to advocate a four-day 32 hour week to increase productivity; I don’t get that, especially for the self employed, struggling shopkeepers, publicans.
I would write more but my hands are cold as I can’t afford to have the heating on, at least spring might warm us all up a little bit.

Ending of greyhound racing should spread across UK
WELL done, Wales, for resolving to end the cruel spectacle of greyhound racing. This move is long overdue and must be enacted immediately and replicated everywhere.
Every dog is someone who deserves love and companionship – something those used for racing are denied.
Instead, they are treated as mere money-making machines for greedy humans who keep them muzzled and confined to barren cages except when they are being forced to race.
Greyhounds are constantly the victims of catastrophic injuries: broken legs, heat stroke, and heart attacks.
During the last reporting period alone (2023), 4,238 injuries and 103 deaths were recorded on UK tracks, with many more dogs being killed off-track after their racing days are over.
More still are bred into the industry and discarded simply because they don’t run fast enough.
Sweet, gentle greyhounds are couch potatoes at heart, and Wales can be the first – but not the last – UK nation to take dogs out of the race forever.

On Trump…
TRUMP accuses President Zelensky of Ukraine of being a dictator, next he will be telling us Putin is the godfather of democracy.
