Community Bees and York Down Syndrome Support Group helped to cut the ribbon and declare the new-look Bishopthorpe Co-op open to serve the community.
The store has had a ‘great response’ with colleagues enjoying welcoming the community back into their Co-op which has re-opened following a five-week programme of works and improvements.
The community groups are both beneficiaries of Co-op’s Local Community Fund which is dedicated to making a difference in local communities.

The store has an enhanced focus on fresh, healthy and chilled produce, alongside a bakery, food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; ready meals, award winning beers and wines and, every day essentials
New refrigeration enhances the fresh and chilled range and, supports Co-op’s work to further cut its carbon footprint.
Soft plastic recycling is also available, enabling shoppers to return harder to recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.
The online home delivery of groceries is available through Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo, where orders are picked fresh in the local store and delivered quickly and conveniently in the community.
Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.
