Ethan Brierley has signed from Brentford for an undisclosed fee

Ethan Brierley has completed a move to Huddersfield Town, joining from Premier League club Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old central midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract running until 2029. He joins the Terriers on the back of a full Sky Bet League One campaign on loan at Exeter City, where he played 47 games.

That was the latest step in a career that started at Rochdale, where he made his senior debut against Town at just 16 years old. He went on to establish himself for his first club, playing 44 games across Leagues One and Two, before moving to London to join Premier League Brentford in 2023.

He made his senior Brentford bow almost immediately, playing in the Carabao Cup in August 2023, before continuing his football education as part of the Bees’ B Team. He captained that side to the 2025 Premier League Cup Final ahead of his loan move to Exeter for the 2025/26 season.

Head coach Martin Drury explained: “Ethan is a player I’ve admired for a while. He will bring us enthusiasm, energy and quality to add to the other midfield players we have.

“Again, on meeting him it was clear that he has the mentality and drive to keep developing, which is what our working environment will be driven by day-by-day. Myself and the staff are excited to work with Ethan and over time I believe he can become a real asset to the football club.”

Sporting director Chris Markham added: “I’m happy to welcome Ethan to Huddersfield Town. He is the type of player that we’re always looking for; a young, hungry footballer who is desperate to improve, but one who already has an impressive track record and has shown he can cope with the frequency of games at this level.

Brentford B head coach Sam Saunders said: “It’s an amazing opportunity for Ethan to go and test himself at Huddersfield. Knowing the manager [Martin Drury] who worked with us last year and him knowing Ethan, I think it’s a good fit.

“Ethan had a really good loan spell last year at Exeter and there was no shortage of clubs that wanted to take him. He’s been a model professional ever since he signed from Rochdale and he’s been a joy to work with. The club wish him every success in the future.”
