Kevin Hart and Netflix are becoming a dynamic duo, adding hilarious comedies to their collaborations, including a new production directed by Ride Along‘s Tim Story. Hart is set to star in the comedy 72 Hours, which serves as a reunion for the comedian and Story, who worked together on the Ride Along film series. Hartbeat (Kevin’s global production company) and Counterbalance will produce. Will Packer, who also worked with Hart in the 2019 film Night School with Tiffany Haddish, is set to produce as well. The project is based on a script by Matt Mider & Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote the script a decade ago.
According to Deadline, the plot consists of a 40-year-old executive yearning to save his career by befriending a group of people in their twenties. After being added to their group chat, he joins them for a three-day bachelor party. Ross Fanger, known for being the production manager of Planet of the Apes (2001), Fantastic Four (2005), X-Men: The Last Sound (2006), and The Grey (2011), will executive produce. 72 Hours is being produced under Netflix’s partnership with Sony Pictures that started in 2021. It gives Netflix a first look at any films the company aims to make for streaming.

‘Ride Along’ Tripled Its Budget at the Box Office
When Tim Story directed Ride Along, he wasn’t a stranger to working with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. Story directed Ice Cube’s first Barbershop movie in 2005, and worked with Kevin Hart on Think Like A Man in 2012, which was produced by Will Packer and based on Steve Harvey’s 2009 book, “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man.” So in 2014, when he directed the buddy cop comedy film, it only built onto his relationship with both of the multi-talented creatives.
Ride Along hit theaters on January 17, 2014, with a $25 million budget and brought in $154 million at the box office. During its three-day opening weekend, it grossed approximately $41 million, setting the then-record for the highest domestic opening weekend in January. It held the No. 1 spot at the US box office for three weeks.
At the time, Hart shared with Collider what he thought the funniest scene in the movie was:
“There are so many laugh-out-loud moments in the movie. My favorite has to be the warehouse, where I slapped Cube and stuck him with a knife. That was so fun! Those were some long days, and he just had to sit there in the chair. Cube didn’t have a lot of activity to do. It was just me, running around. But, there was this one moment where I stick him with the knife. We were really laughing out loud so much, during that take.”
